Broken Grid Collective
When great minds come together, considering the less fortunate, great ideas are created. Kaylah Bhimani, Kimberly Galbraith, Maxwell Noronha, Cole Finucane and myself, Jadon Thiessen. We sat together for 10 hours, group brain storming through the concept of a collective considering the betterment of our youth. Through an ad campaign with event posters, to a logo and mission statement that considers the target audience of 12-25 year old less fortunate and at risk youth. This powerful and researched campaign also includes a fully mocked app, that would serve the less fortunate as a resource location hub and community connection. At Broken Grid Collective, we set out to create a brand and digital experience that not only looks great but serves a real purpose. It all started with the logo—our foundation. From there, we built an app, advertisements, and a strong social media presence to bring everything together.
One of our strengths in the app design was balancing functionality with aesthetics. The UI is simple yet impactful, allowing users to quickly find resources, apply for mentorship, and showcase their work in a visually engaging way.

Return 2 Retro
Taking a look into social media addiction, I wanted to collect more knowledge for my own personal journey, while being able to share the dangers to make our community more aware.
While researching this topic, I found both Canadian and American resources, that provided very shocking information. The Canadian Mental Health Organization speaks about a recent survey where 86% of Ontario students use social media on a daily basis, where 16% of those users had over 5 hours of use daily. Staggering. Reading into the social media addiction concerns in the states, referenced from an article on the American Addiction Center, they state that based on their findings, 5-10% of Americans have social media addiction issues. These stats get even larger when we examine individuals with developmental disabilities. Upwards of 45% of these adults have issues with mental illness and addiction issues.
Through the use of a “Return to Retro” campaign, where we urge community members to disconnect from SNS and take time to enjoy the simple things in life. From reading a book, to picking up an pencil and paper to putting on a record. We want to set one day a week aside to R2R. We are going to implement the reference from “Mean Girls”, a film released in 2004 that references “On Wednesdays, we wear pink”. We want to implement this through our Tag Line that will read “On Wednesdays we return to retro”. We feel through the use of this pop culture reference that it will engage the audience and resonate with the community that loves this film.

Advertising Designs
Taking a moment to talk about advertising, it is the wonderful connection between a company and their consumer. You must consider the target audience, their considerations towards the world around them, while providing a selling point. The selling point may utilize an older style selling point, like a unique selling aspect of the product. You can also use an emotional selling point, that customers truly resonate with as of recent years.

Corporate Design
Corporate design has quickly become one of my favorite forms of media. From simple but visually pleasing stationary, to a fun and memorable business cards. Corporate design is often simple, and displayed in a manner that would suit business professionals. With a larger use of negative space and the simplicity of designs it guide the user through a designated set of information
User Style Guides -- Through the use of style guides, you can quickly and easily design for larger organizations. This allows the designer a guided opportunity to visually attract users with a set guideline.
Marketing Plans -- After detailed research through team based environments, this allows me to thrive with a skilled team of designers that can elevate the conversation to new heights. Ensuring to touch on a large amount of psycho-graphic and sociological segments to build a directed campaign for a certain target demographic.
Set Budgets -- The focused element that a budget ads to a design allows for a clear direction when building a marketing plan. Allowing a design team to build with a predetermined set of templates and requests rapidly and systematically ensures a premium result.

Logo and Branding Designs

Vehicle Wrap Designs
When it comes to vehicle wrap design, there is a balance of simplicity, legibility, and matching your design to the desired vehicle. Each element requires careful consideration of balance and alignment to the body lines of the vehicle.
Consider Key Information -- Communicating clearly and effectively with your client to determine the important contact info will start the project on the right foot.
Research driven design -- Next, looking into trends in the market will guide the design in the right direction. This can provide important in-site regarding the layout of key information, and colours to avoid so you don’t replicate current wraps on the road.
Determine your palette -- Finally, applying the desired colour palette and incorporating possible flare elements to give the design some extra pop. Taking into consideration, the body lines and possible aftermarket parts that are installed on a vehicle, will ensure your end outcome will suit the design.
