Return 2 Retro

Taking a look into social media addiction, I wanted to collect more knowledge for my own personal journey, while being able to share the dangers to make our community more aware.

While researching this topic, I found both Canadian and American resources, that provided very shocking information. The Canadian Mental Health Organization speaks about a recent survey where 86% of Ontario students use social media on a daily basis, where 16% of those users had over 5 hours of use daily. Staggering. Reading into the social media addiction concerns in the states, referenced from an article on the American Addiction Center, they state that based on their findings, 5-10% of Americans have social media addiction issues. These stats get even larger when we examine individuals with developmental disabilities. Upwards of 45% of these adults have issues with mental illness and addiction issues.

Through the use of a “Return to Retro” campaign, where we urge community members to disconnect from SNS and take time to enjoy the simple things in life. From reading a book, to picking up an pencil and paper to putting on a record. We want to set one day a week aside to R2R. We are going to implement the reference from “Mean Girls”, a film released in 2004 that references “On Wednesdays, we wear pink”. We want to implement this through our Tag Line that will read “On Wednesdays we return to retro”. We feel through the use of this pop culture reference that it will engage the audience and resonate with the community that loves this film.
